Jewish World’s Tau
The Tau was adopted very early by Christians for a twofold reason. It was, as the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, a prophecy of the last day and had the same function as the Greek alphabet letter of Omega, as read in the Apocalypse of St. John: “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end. To those who have thirst I will give you water of life … I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end “(Apoc.21,6; 22,13 ). Secondly, Christians saw in this sign the prefiguration of the cross of Christ as the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises because it represented the means by which Christ overthrew the disobedience of old Adam, becoming our Savior as “new Adam” .
